2014년 8월 30일(토) 오전10시부터 오후3시까지 한강 잠실지구(유원지)에서 2014년 제8회 장애인 수영대회를

성대히 치뤄었다.

 

장애인과 비장애인이 ‘손잡고’ 한강을 건넜다. 한강시민공원 잠실지구에서 뚝섬지구에 이르는 1.6km 구간에서 ‘제8회 장애인수영 한강건너기대회’가 열려 장애인 150명, 비장애인 250명, 내빈과 운영요원 및 자원봉사자 100여 명 등 500명이 모여 한강 도하에 도전했다.

오전 10시, 개회식에는 대회장인 길정우 국회의원, 박은수 서울특별시장애인체육회 부회장, 최성중 (사)한국장애인정보화협회 중앙회장 등 여러 내빈이 참석하여 선수들을 격려했다.

 

장애인, 비장애인부로 나뉜 참가 선수들은 대한인명구조협회 등 안전요원들의 안내에 따라 입수했다. 장애인 선수는 가이드와 호흡을 맞춰 안전하게 강을 건넜고, 비장애인 선수들도 평소 기회가 없는 '한강 수영‘의 즐거움을 만끽했다. 30도를 웃도는 무더위에도 참가자들의 얼굴에는 두려움을 이긴 환희가 담겼다.

올해로 3번째 참가한다는 박남석(지체장애·36)씨는 “처음에는 아무것도 모르고 건넜고, 두 번째는 즐길 수 있었고, 세 번째는 행복하다”며 “1년에 한 번 있는 대회니 꼭 참석하고 싶었다. 평소 운동을 즐기는 편은 아니지만 한강 물 속에서 태양을 올려다보는 기분은 이루 말로 할 수 없다”며 소감을 전했다. 6회째 참가한다는 여성 선수 역시 “고3인 아들의 자존감을 높여주기 위해 참가했다. 단순한 수영이 아닌 용기와 자신감을 심어주는 좋은 대회라고 생각한다”고 말했다.

올해로 8회를 맞이하는 대회는 서울특별시장애인수영연맹에서 주최, 주관하고 서울특별시, 서울특별시장애인체육회 등이 후원했으며, 장애인과 비장애인의 어울림 수상스포츠대회로 굳게 자리매김하여 시민들의 큰 호응을 얻고 있다.
